The Awake CCT FS is the latest in military tie-in watches. This piece was made for members of the French Special Forces Command and Communications Company. It’s a limited edition with half of the units destined for members of the unit and half for the public.

Awake watches aren’t new here on Fratello. We’ve reviewed quite a few and, overall, have come away impressed with the brand’s clean and modern designs. We’ve seen watches that relate to NASA and time travel. Today’s watch, the CCT FS, uses a familiar platform with a slightly different take on the theme. This is a military watch, and while it has a tactical look, it also seems quite wearable for most daily activities.

Awake CCT FS

The Awake CCT FS

The new CCT FS was created for the French Special Forces Command and Communications Company. For those who aren’t familiar with this name, this paratrooper unit establishes the communication links so that the French Special Forces can command operations in the field. Think of it as a group that lays down communication lines before an operation. Awake worked with this team and created today’s stealthy watch as a mission-ready piece. The proof of this claim is that half of the 100-piece production run is meant to be worn by members of this military group.

Specs

The Awake CCT FS uses the brand’s familiar 40 × 11.89mm case in recycled titanium. It has a sandblasted finish and PVD coating along with a large screw-in crown for a 100m water resistance rating. The matte black dial features applied indexes filled with Super-LumiNova. It also has an angled rehaut that shows each watch’s unique number at 6 o’clock. At 12 o’clock, the ring contains the group’s call sign, “ICI 01 VERT ACTION,” which translates to, “HERE 01, GO FOR ACTION.”

This model uses the no-date automatic Miyota 9039 caliber, which is visible via a display case back. Awake has customized the rotor with the military unit’s insignia. For straps, these watches will come with two. The first is a black Biopoly strap with reduced fossil fuel usage during production. The second is a canvas NATO-style strap.

Availability and thoughts

The Awake CCT FS will go on sale today via the brand’s official website. Fifty pieces will be available to the public for €890 each. This is a cool-looking watch that will undoubtedly appeal to those who have a connection with this military group or military watches in general. Clearly, it prioritizes legibility and below-the-radar looks, and I think it succeeds. Perhaps I’d like to see a bit more of something on the dial to make it stand out, but I understand the stealthy intent. For the price, there are a lot of watches in this space, so I think it will be a matter of the CCT FS clicking with its potential owner. Still, it’s fun to see different takes on modern military watches from around the world.

What do you think of this one? Does it click with you or not? Sound off in the comments.
